- 768: Patriarch Constantine II is beheaded on orders from Byzantine emperor Constantine V "Copronymus".
- 1924: Andreas Michalakopoulos forms a government.
- 1944: 300 Greek Jews lead 150 others in a revolt at the Auschwitz concentration camp. Nearly all are killed in the ensuing fight against the German guards.
- 1944: The first British troops land in the Peloponnese.
- 1959: Archbishop Makarios III and Georgios Grivas meet in Rhodes and sign a cooperation agreement.
- 1973: An unsuccessful attempt is made on the life of Cyprus President Makarios III: a bomb explodes prematurely on the road he was scheduled to travel.
