- 1938: The ancient theatre of Epidaurus was put to use again - after 2000 years. The first play put on was "Electra" by Sophocles.
- 1942: The Greek forces in Egypt came under German airforce bombardment. Four soldiers were killed and ten are wounded.
- 1999: Kostas Gatsioudis broke the Greek record in the javelin with a throw of 89.84m
- 2001: The attack against the Twin Towers took place. The nearby Greek Orthodox church of Saint Nicolas was also damaged.
