A.E. Larisa or AEL 1964 is a greek football club based in Larisa. Its full name is Athlitiki Enosi Larisa (Athletic Union of Larisa).

Since 2003, it has been known as AEL 1964 (a bankruptcy forced this name change.)

History

The club was founded in 1964 from a merger four local clubs: Iraklis (Larisa), Aris (Larisa), Toxotis Larisas and Larisaikos. It quickly rose to the first division. However, after winning the 1988 championship, the club fell into decline and by 2000 had been relegated to the third division, going through bankruptcy.

However, this season has proven very fruitful for the club, winning the second division (achieving a rare double promotion) and advancing to the quarterfinals of the Greek Cup. The special characteristic of team is the fans. They have a pathologic love about their team and follow all overit
