Pavlos Nirvanas
Even though Pavlos Nirvanas (alternate spelling Paulos Nirvanas) - poet, screenplay writer and crtitic - was not born in Skopelos, but he wanted to be considered a Skopelitian. His real name was Petros Apostolidis - Pavlos Nirvanas being his alias.
Papadiamantis called him fellow-countryman as Skopelos and Skiathos stand side by side in the blue of the Aegean Sea. Once Papadiamantis reading one of his poems, caressed his head and said: " poems, too, are lessons".
Pavlos Nirvanas was born in Mari(an)oupolis in Russia in 1886 from a Skopelitian and a mother from Chios. Whilst still very young he lived in Piraeus. There he went to school and learned his first letters. In 1890 he finished medical school at the university of Athens. He entered the service of the royal navy as assistant surgeon and retired from army service after many years of duty with the degree of general chief doctor.
He wrote revered and remarkable studies in his science. Many times his activities took the form of charities as he donated his attention to illness and pain. For a long time he was known as Petros K. Apostolidis and later became Pavlos Nirvanas better known as Captain or Doctor.
Pavlos Nirvanas spent all of his life writing and this was his constant companion and occupation until he died in November 29th in 1937.
