Kos (town)

Kos is a town on the island of Kos, Greece. It is situated in the NE part of the island of which it is the capital.

The town of Kos is also the main seaport of the island. It was built in 366BC and flourished during the Hellenistic Era. Near the entrance to the harbour is a 14th century castle.

It is believed that Hippocrates taught in Kos, under a tree that still exists.

The ruins of Hippocrates' school, known as the Asclepion, are also found in the town.
