Methodius I was Patriarch of Constantinople from 842 until 846.

Methodius served at the time of the great issue over the veneration of icons in the church. He sided with the iconophiles in the dispute.

After his death, he was canonised a saint by the Eastern Orthodox Church. His memory is celebrated on June 14.
