Georgios Lilikas
Georgios Lilikas is a former Foreign Minister of Cyprus.
Lilikas was born in the village of Panagia, Paphos province, on June 1, 1960. He studied Political Science at the University of Lyon and obtained a doctorate in 1987.
Lilikas was first elected into the House of Representatives in 1996, under the banner of AKEL, in Lefkosia province. He was appointed Minister of Trade, Industry and Tourism on March 1, 2003. On June 13, 2006, he replaced Georgios Iakovou as Foreign Minister. He resigned in July of 2007 after AKEL pulled out of the governing coalition but threw his support behind incumbent President Tassos Papadopoulos for the upcoming elections.
In 2013, Lillikas stood for President on his own. He polled 24.93% of the vote barely missing out on second place which would have pitted him in the runoffs against DISY chairman Nikos Anastasiades.
Lilikas is married with one son.
