- 1821: The revolting Greeks prevailed over the Turkish forces at Chalandri and took over Athens.
- 1918: The First Congress of Greek socialists was held, from which the Socialist Labour Party of Greece (SEKE) was born - it was later renamed to Communist Party of Greece (KKE).
- 1932: Panagis Tsaldaris was sworn in as Prime Minister after winning the September 26 elections with the Popular Party (Laiko Komma, Λαϊκό Κόμμα).
- 1961: Constantine Karamanlis was re-elected Prime Minister after winning the elections where, as they later pronounced, "even the trees voted !"
- 1980: The five day work week was established.
