Yiannis Stournaras is a Greek economist, university professor and cabinet Minister.
Stournaras was born on December 10, 1956 in Athens. He studied Economics at the University of Athens with graduate studies at the University of Chicago.
He teaches Economics at the University of Athens since 1989 and has, at times, served as adviser to the Ministry of Finance, the Bank of Greece, the Commercial Bank of Greece, etc.
Stournaras was twice appointed as government minister:
- From May till June 2012 he served as Minister for Development and Competition in the caretaker government of Panagiotis Pikrammenos
- From June 2012 as Minister for Finance in the coalition government of Antonis Samaras.
Stournaras is married with two children.
