1843: The First National Council of Greece begins its work under the Presidency of 103-year old Panoutsos Notaras.
1866: The siege of Arkadi begins.
1901: During the "Evangelical Events", a student demonstration, by the temple of Olympian Zeus, turned bloody with 8 deaths.
1903: University students riot in Athens in protest of the play "Orestias" being performed in modern Greek. Three students will be killed by the Police.
1905: A major earthquake (7.5 on the Richter scale) strikes Mount Athos causing much damage.
1912: Greek forces enter the city of Mytilene during the First Balkan War.
1926: APOEL FC is founded in Nicosia.
1931: AEK become the winner of the first Greek Football Cup tournament after prevailing over Aris with a 5-3 score at a final game played at Panathinaikos' stadium
1963: The new government under Georgios Papandreou is sworn in.
1974: The democratic regime under Constantine Karamanlis held a second democratic referendum, which confirmed the monarchy's abolition, with the monarchy receiving only one third of all votes cast.
1977: Greek archaeologist Manolis Andronikos announces that he had found the unopened tomb of Philip II of Macedon at Vergina, Pieria prefecture.
