- April 21: A military Junta, led by George Papadopoulos, assumes power in Greece after a nearly bloodless coup d'etat.
May
- May 1: Footballer Mimis Domazos marries popular singer Vicky Moscholiou.
- May 14: Palace Priest Hieronymus is elected Archbishop of Athens.
August
- August 7: Christos Papanikolaou smashes the Greek record in decathlon with 6.073 points.
- August 21: Composer/politician Mikis Theodorakis is arrested by the military government of Greece. He will spend the next five months in prison.
