Born in 1954, Thomas Mavros was, without a doubt, one of the best offensive player that Greece has seen in the last 30 years. He could easily have made a career in France, Spain, etc.
Thomas Mavros was the classic offender that could move quickly in the opposing area, take very strong shots, smart with the ball that would bring chaos to defenders. He has the record in the Greek championship with 260 goals in 501 games.
He became first scorer four years: in 1978 with 22 goals, in 1979 with 31 goals (third in Europe), in 1985 with 27 goals, and in 1990 with 22 goals.
Thomas Mavros started his football career in 1970 from the club of Panionios and he was traded to AEK in 1976. There he won two championships (1978 and 1979) one cup (1978) and later he returned to Panionios in 1978 where he finished his career in 1991. He has 36 appearances with the National team of Greece (11 goals) in the period of 1972-1982.
