1940: A German U-boat sank the Greek cargo ship "Eleni Spathatou" killing 12 seamen.
1960: Official talks began between Greece and the European Common Market.
2000: Nine years after his death, Symeon Mavroskoufis became the first Greek to enter the Basketball Hall of Fame. He was one of the 8 representatives who signed FIBA's founding declaration in May 1932.
