820: Byzantine Emperor Leo V was assassinated in the Palace Chapel.
1940: Submarine RHS Papanikolis, under Lt.Cdr. Miltiades Iatridis, torpedoed and sank the Italian merchant Firenze (3952 BRT), in the Adriatic, off Saseno Island
