820: Byzantine Emperor Leo V is assassinated in the Palace Chapel.
1940: Submarine RHS Papanikolis, under Lt.Cdr. Miltiades Iatridis, torpedoes and sinks the Italian merchant Firenze (3952 BRT) in the Adriatic off Saseno Island
