Ialyssos or Ialysos (modern name Trianta) is a city on the island of Rhodes.
History
Ialyssos, along with Lindos and Kamiros, was one of the three main cities of Rhodes in antiquity. It was the home of the ancient boxer Diagoras.
Ialyssos declined in 408 BC when the city of Rhodes was built. In Roman times it was mentioned as a village by Strabo.
Suleiman the Magnificent used Ialyssos as his headquarters when conducting, in 1522, the siege of Rhodes.
Modern times
Ialyssos is a city of 10,275 inhabitants according to the census of 2001. Formerly a municipality in its own right, it is now part of the municipality of Rhodes. Its main industry is tourism.
