- 1254: Theodore II Lascaris is acclaimed as Byzantine emperor upon the death of his father John III Doukas Vatatzes.
- 1620: Cyril Lucaris is elected Patriarch of Constantinople.
- 1821: The revolting Greeks prevail over the Turkish forces at Chalandri and then take over Athens
- 1912: Icaria is liberated during the First Balkan War.
- 1918: The First Congress of Greek socialists is held, from which the Socialist Labour Party of Greece or SEKE (Greek: Σοσιαλιστικό Εργατικό Κόμμα Ελλάδας, Sosialistiko Ergatiko Komma Elladas) was born - a few years later it is renamed to Communist Party of Greece (Kommounistiko Komma Ellados, Κομμουνιστικό Κόμμα Ελλάδος, KKE).
- 1932: Panagis Tsaldaris is sworn in as Prime Minister after winning the September 26 elections with the Popular Party (Laiko Komma, Λαϊκό Κόμμα)
- 1961: Constantine Karamanlis is sworn in as PM, after winning the October 29 elections where, as they later pronounced, "even the trees voted !"
- 1980: The five day work week is established

- 1928: Legendary goalkeeper Achilleas Grammatikopoulos debuts for Olympiakos. Grammatikopoulos would remain as Olympiakos' keeper until 1944.
