• April 1: Tsamis Karatasos leads a revolt of Greeks in the Chalkidiki peninsula.
• May 14: French and British war ships blockade Piraeus harbour during the Crimean War. The crews spread a cholera epidemic that decimates the population of the greater Athens area.
