- 1940: A German U-boat sank the Greek cargo ship "Eleni Spathatou" killing 12 seamen.
- 1960: Official talks began between Greece and the European Common Market.
- 2000: Nine years after his death, Symeon Mavroskoufis became the first Greek to enter the Basketball Hall of Fame. He was one of the 8 representatives who signed FIBA's founding declaration in May 1932.
- Births: Alexandros Lykourezos, noted lawyer (1934), Oleg Protasov, football player and coach of Olympiakos (1964), Giovanni, football player (1972).
- Deaths: Saint Cyril, who with his brother, Saint Methodius, converted the Slavs to Christianity (869), Eleni Skoura, first Greek woman Member of Parliament (aged 96) (1991).
