• 338 BC - Rise of Macedon: Philip II of Macedon crushes Athens and Thebes in the Battle of Chaeronea.
• 1645: The Ottoman army seizes Chania, Crete. The commander of the Turkish force however was executed for losing 40,000 men in the siege.
• 1859: King Otto lays the cornerstone of the building of the Academy of Athens.
• 1989: Former Panathinaikos footballer, Lakis Sofianos, is found hanged in his prison cell.
• 1991: The daily sports journal Ora gia Sport is first published. The Sebos family is the publisher after their withdrawal from Athlitiki Iho.

Sports

• 1997: Angelos Pavlakakis breaks the Greek record for the 100m with 10.11.
• 2006: Nery Niangkouara set a new national record and the bronze metal at the European Swimming Championship in Budapest finishing in third place in the women's 100m freestyle with 54.48".
