- January 1: Greece assumes the Presidency of the European Union.
- January 24: The Revolutionary Organization 17 November assassinate Michalis Vranopoulos, former governor of the National Bank.

- February 16: Greece imposes an embargo on FYROM.
- February 27: Greek-Australians demonstrate against FYROM's use of the name "Macedonia".

- July 4: Turkish Diplomat, Omer Sipahioglu, is shot and killed in Palio Faliron. The Revolutionary Organization 17 November assume responsibility.

- September 7: An Albanian court hands down jail sentences to five members of the Northern Epirus "Omonia Party" for "treason and collaboration with an outside power".
