  • 1920: The Greek National Football Team played its first international game against Sweden and lost with a score of 9-0. EPO does not recognize this as an official game as it was not established yet; football was under the auspices of SEGAS.
  • 1949: 29-year-old Costas Giataganas of Ethnikos AC with 15.09 becomes the first Greek shot put athlete to overcome the barrier of 15 meters. Two years later, he will win the gold medal at the Mediterranean Games and during his career he will break the national record 6 times, raising it from 14.63 to 15.58.
  • 1999: Mirella Maniani-Tzelili wins the gold medal in javelin (67.09m) at the Sevilla World Championships.
  • 2001: Greek and Turkish football authorities agree to make a joint bid to host Euro 2008. Nevertheless, UEFA's executive committee will vote in favour of the Austrian-Swiss joint bid on December 12, 2002.
  • 2004: Elisavet Mystakidou wins the silver medal in the 67kgs of taekwondo after losing in the final from Chinese Wei Luo at the Athens Olympic Games.
