Heraklion International Airport
Heraklion International Airport, "Nikos Kazantzakis" (Greek Κρατικός Αερολιμένας Ηρακλείου, "Νίκος Καζαντζάκης") or Nikos Kazantzakis International Airport (IATA HER, ICAO LGIR) is the primary airport on the island of Crete, Greece. It is located about 5km from the main city of Heraklion. The airport is named after Heraklion native Nikos Kazantzakis, a Greek writer and philosopher.
Area
Nikos Kazantzakis Airport serves Heraklio (Ηράκλειο), Agios Nikolaos (Άγιος Νικόλαος), Mallia (Mάλλια), Chersonissos (Χερσόνησος) and other resorts. It is Crete's main and busiest airport.
Passenger Information
It is often requested by airlines that passengers do not take any photographs or video of the runway. This is due to an Hellenic Air Force base which operates at the airport.
