Ioannis Palaiokrassas

Ioannis Palaiokrassas was a Greek businessman, writer, politician and former European Commissioner and cabinet Minister.

Palaiokrassas was born on March 27, 1934 in Athens, to a family that hailed from the island of Andros. He studied at Varvakios and London School of Economics where he obtained his Bachelor's and Master's degrees.

He was elected to the Hellenic Parliament from the Cyclades, under the banner of New Democracy, between 1981 and 1989. He served as Minister of Finance from 1991 until 1992.

Palaiokrassas was targeted by the Revolutionary Organisation 17 November which attempted to assassinated him on July 14, 1992. He escaped unhurt though a passerby was killed.

Palaiokrassas wrote many studies on a variety of subjects including the merchant marine, transportation, economic development. He was married with three children and seven grandchildren.

He died on October 2, 2021.
