- 1929: Sports club Ergotelis is founded in Heraklio, Crete.
- 1952: Greek forces take Hill 167 near the Imjin River during the Korean War.
- 2004: The Rio-Antirio bridge is inaugurated connecting Central Greece and the Peloponnese.

- 1967: Christos Papanikolaou smashes the Greek record in the decathlon with 6.073 points.
- 1999: Stavros Fryganas, first unofficial Greek chess champion in 1930, dies in Malaga aged 90. He was the man who introduced chess clocks to Greece for the first official championship in 1947.
- 2002: Katerina Thanou and Katerina Vongoli win the gold medal in 100m and discus respectively, at the European Championships in Munich. Anastasia Kelesidou and Alexandros Papadimitriou place 3d in discus and shot put respectively.
