Margaritis Tzimas is a Greek politician and currently Minister for Macedonia-Thrace of the Republic of Greece.
Tzimas was born in Toxotes, Xanthi prefecture on March 15, 1954 and studied Physics in the University of Thessaloniki.
He entered national politics in March, 2004, when he was first elected to the Hellenic Parliament, under the banner of New Democracy, in Drama prefecture. He was reelected in 2007. Prior to that, on the local level, he had served four terms as mayor of the city of Drama (1990-2004).
In September, 2007, Tzimas became Minister for Macedonia-Thrace.
Tzimas is married with two sons and a daughter.
