1915: A powerful earthquake (6.7 on the Richter scale) strikes Ithaca and the surrounding area for the second time within the year.
1952: Greek forces take Hill 167 near the Imjin River during the Korean War.
1957: Theocletus II is elected Archbishop of Athens.
2004: The Rio-Antirio bridge is inaugurated connecting Central Greece and the Peloponnese.

1929: Sports club Ergotelis is founded in Heraklio, Crete.
1938: Grigoris Lambrakis breaks the Greek record for the long jump with 7.19m.
1938: Ioannis Palamiotis breaks the Greek record for the triple jump with 14.66m
1967: Christos Papanikolaou smashes the Greek record in the decathlon with 6.073 points.
1999: Stavros Fryganas, first unofficial Greek chess champion in 1930, dies in Malaga aged 90. He was the man who introduced chess clocks to Greece for the first official championship in 1947.
2002: Katerina Thanou and Katerina Vongoli win the gold medal in 100m and discus respectively, at the European Championships in Munich. Anastasia Kelesidou and Alexandros Papadimitriou place 3d in discus and shot put respectively.
