- 1916: Eleftherios Venizelos left for Thessaloniki with 300 of his followers to take charge of the National Defence Movement.
- 1921: The Battle of the Sakarya ended with the withdrawal of the Greek Army.
- 1922: Smyrna was set ablaze by the Turkish army.
- 1986: A powerful earthquake (6.2 on the Richter scale) rocked Kalamata causing extensive damage and five fatalities.
- 1995: In an agreement between the two countries, FYROM agreed to remove the Vergina Star from their flag and amend their constitution while Greece agreed to lift the embargo imposed.
- 1996: The first TV debate in Greek political history took place as Costas Simitis took on Miltiades Evert prior to the general elections.
