January 18: EOKA guerilla fighter, Markos Drakos, is ambushed and slain by the British at Solea, Cyprus.

February 17: EOKA fighter Stylianos Lenas is wounded in a battle with British soldiers.

March 2: The Battle of Machairas begins as the British come upon the cave where Grigoris Afxentiou and his men were hiding out.
March 3: The Battle of Machairas concludes in the early hours of the morning, with the death by burning of Grigoris Afxentiou.
March 14: Evagoras Pallikaridis is hanged in the Central Jail of Lefkosia.
