- May 31: Aris Vovos with his co-driver Kostas Stefanis win the 42nd Acropolis Rally with a Lancia Delta HF Integrale. It is the first time in the last 40 years that a Greek crew wins the Acropolis Rally after Johnny Pesmatzoglou in 1955 with an Opel Kapitan

- June 7: The trial of three Greek satanists starts in Athens. The three men are accused of murdering three women.
July
- July 1: Former Crown Prince Pavlos marries American Marie-Chantal Miller in London. 10 New Democracy MPs attend the wedding causing a stir in Greek politics.
- July 22: Greece win the Juniors Basketball world title after defeating Australia 91-73 in Athens. Efthimis Rentzias is voted MVP of the tournament.

- September 12: FYROM refuse to negotiate the matter of their name in New York unless Greece first lifts the trade embargo against them.
