- 1878: 24,000 Greek troops, under Gen. Skarlatos Soutsos, invade Thessaly to protect the locals who rebelled against Ottoman yoke.
- 1897: 1,500 Greek troops, under Timoleon Vassos, land in Crete to aid local rebels who sought union with Greece.
- 1944: Four units of the Hellenic Navy take part in the landing at Anzio.
- 1988: The Revolutionary Organization 17 November unsuccessfully attempt to assassinate US official George Karos.
- 2009: Antros Kyprianou is elected Secretary General of AKEL, replacing Dimitris Christofias.

- 1989: A luxury hotel opens inside the training camp of Panathinaikos at Paiania. It was the beginning of the construction of a modern training camp (one of the best in Europe) which was concluded in 1993.
