• January 1: Greece assumes the Presidency of the European Union.
• January 24: The Revolutionary Organization 17 November assassinate Michalis Vranopoulos, former governor of the National Bank.

• February 16: Greece imposes an embargo on FYROM.
• February 27: Greek-Australians demonstrate against FYROM's use of the name "Macedonia".

July

• July 4: Turkish Diplomat, Omer Sipahioglu, is shot and killed in Palio Faliron. The Revolutionary Organization 17 November assume responsibility.

September

• September 7: An Albanian court hands down jail sentences to five members of the Northern Epirus "Omonia Party" for "treason and collaboration with an outside power".

• October 2: Filmnet's first broadcast of an athletic event (Iraklis vs PAOK at Kaftanzoglio Stadium)
• October 12: Daniel Batista becomes the first black man to play for the National Football Team of Greece in a 4-0 victory over Finland.
