  • 1992: Andreas Papandreou is acquitted by a 7-6 vote of a Special Court of the Bank of Crete scandal. His cohorts, Dimitris Tsovolas and Giorgos Petsos, are found guilty.
  • 1996: PM Andreas Papandreou retires from office due to poor health.
  • 2005: A wave of extreme weather conditions (thunderstorms, snowfall and 10 Beaufort gales) cost the lives of two persons: a football fan, 55-year-old Stamatis Georgioudakis, crushed by a metal door in Xanthi Stadium and a passenger of a snow-plough was electrocuted when his vehicle got tangled with a severed live wire at the Chalkida - Edipsos National Highway.
  • 2007: Students and teachers take to the streets in Athens to protest the Government-sponsored Education Reform Bill 16.

  • 1998: Hristofori Bakatselou, Maria Galani and Katerina Pantaina become the first female judges on the Disciplinary Committee of EPAE (Greek Football Clubs Association)
  • 1998: Greece finish 5th at Women's Waterpolo World Championship in Perth, Australia after beating Canada 10-9 in overtime
  • 2000: Basketball referee Stelios Simeonidis retires after 27 years
  • 2000: Nikos Dabizas scores his 5th goal (Newcastle- Southampton) becoming the first Newcastle defender since 1893 to score in 2 consecutive games
