AEK's lanky centre-back, Alekos Iordanou, was born in Istanbul. He joined the (then) champions of Greece in the 1963 - 1964 season and soon displaced Yiannis Marditsis as the first team's central defender. He transferred to Aegaleo later in his career (1969 - 1970.
