Costas Chimonides

Costas Chimonides was a Greek track and field athlete. He was born in 1936 in Kastania, Imathia.

He graduated from the Gymnastics Academy and went on to become an athlete and later a coach.

In 1965 he was transfered from AEK to PAOK.

Costas Chimonides was also an excellent volleyball athlete. As a matter of fact, he was one of the first to show interest in beach volley before it became a sport in Greece, by organizing meetings between volleyball athletes in Thessaloniki during the summer months. [1]. In 1970-75 he was the coach for the PAOK volleyball team.

He was the first Greek high jump athlete to break the 2 meter barrier using the Brumel technique

He trained high jump athletes Vassilis Papadimitriou and Giorgos Economou.

He died in Thessaloniki on July 7, 2009 at the age of 73. The last two years of his life he was sick.
