1922: Turkish troops enter Smyrna. Bishop Chrysostom of Smyrna is slain by a lynch mob.
1941: The resistance movement EDES is founded in Athens by venizelist Col. Napoleon Zervas.
1951: Gen. Alexandros Papagos wins a small plurality (36.5%) in the general elections but is unable to form a government.
