- March 19: The remains of poet Andreas Kalvos arrive in Greece from England for re-burial.
April
- April 30: Greece defeat Israel 2-1 thanks to two late Babis Serafeidis goals.

- May 5: Sophoklis Venizelos calls for the legalisation of the Communist Party of Greece.

- June 19: Giorgos Papavasiliou breaks the Greek record for the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 8:45.8

- July 3: Athens daily "To Vima" announces it will no longer print two obsolete diacritics of the Greek language: the grave accent ("vareia") and the iota subscript ("ypogegrammeni").
- July 6: The constitution of the newly-established Republic of Cyprus is finalised.
- July 22: Giorgos Marsellos breaks the Greek record in the high jump with 1.97m
- July 31: Panathinaikos win the first Greek league title after beating AEK 2-1 in a playoff game.

- August 29: A woman - Stavroula Gouvoussi - is executed for the first time in Greece for a crime: she had strangled her pregnant daughter-in-law.

- September 8: Crown Prince Constantine wins gold at the Rome Olympiad in Dragon class sailing. His crew consisted of Odysseus Eskitzoglou and Giorgos Zaimis.
- September 17: Cyprus is accepted into the UN.
