- 1922: Turkish troops enter Smyrna. Bishop Chrysostom of Smyrna is slain by a lynch mob.
- 1941: The resistance movement EDES is founded in Athens by venizelist Col. Napoleon Zervas.
- 1970: Two Arabs, in possession of explosives, are arrested in Athens.
- 1993: The government of Constantine Mitsotakis collapses after the defection of four MPs.
- 1996: The government of Cyprus publishes evidence that Solomos Solomou was shot dead by Kenan Akin, "minister of agriculture" of the so-called Turkish Republic of N. Cyprus.
- 2005: Vladimir Putin becomes the first Russian state leader to visit Mount Athos.
