Ammochostos province is one of the six administrative districts ("provinces") of the Republic of Cyprus. It takes up the eastern third of Cyprus, including the Karpasia peninsula. It is known as a holiday hot spot with several resorts in the area that attract tourists from all over Europe. Two-thirds of the province is currently under Turkish military occupation and for this reason Paralimni is currently serving as its capital instead of Ammochostos.
