- 1916: Eleftherios Venizelos left for Thessaloniki with 300 of his followers to take charge of the National Defence Movement.
- 1921: The Battle of the Sakarya ended with the withdrawal of the Greek Army.
- 1986: A powerful earthquake (6.2 on the Richter scale) stroke Kalamata causing extensive damage and five fatalities.
- 1995: An initial agreement was reached in New York between FYROM and Greece: FYROM would remove the Vergina Star from their flag and amend their constitution to reflect the fact that they had no territorial claim against Greek Macedonia. Greece would lift the embargo they imposed against the former Yugoslav republic.
- 1996: The first TV debate in Greek political history took place as Costas Simitis took on Miltiades Evert prior to the general elections.
