February
- February 13: The "Turkish Republic of North Cyprus" is declared independent by Turkish Cypriots. Only Turkey recogises the breakaway "state".
- February 23: The National Football Team of Greece is embarassed 2-0 by Malta in La Valetta.
- February 24: An attempted coup d'etat against the Karamanlis government is foiled. As many of the officers involved were arrested in the middle of the night, this goes down in history as the "Pyjamas coup d'etat".
March
- March 19: Aristotle Onassis is buried in Skorpios island. During the funeral, Christina Onassis falls out with Jacqueline Kennedy-Onassis over the inheritance.
June
- June 11: The Constitution of Greece is ratified.
- June 12: Greece formally requests to become a member of the European Economic Community.
July
- July 28: The trial of George Papadopoulos, Stylianos Pattakos, Nikolaos Makarezos and other Junta members commences.
August
- August 23: The trial of George Papadopoulos, Stylianos Pattakos, Nikolaos Makarezos and other Junta members ends with the three former strongmen found guilty of insurrection and treason. They are sentenced to death.
- August 29: PM Constantine Karamanlis converts the death sentences handed out to the Junta strongmen to life imprisonment sentences with the words "when I say 'life imprisonment', I MEAN 'life imprisonment'"!.
December
- December 7: Vassilis Hadjipanagis plays his first game in Greece for Iraklis against Atromitos Athens (1-1). The game was held at the National Stadium of Veria.
- December 23: CIA Station Chief Richard Welch is assassinated outside his villa in Psychiko. A previously unheard of organisation called the "Revolutionary Organization 17 November" takes responsibility.
- December 30: The trial for the events at the Athens Polytechnic School student uprising comes to an end with all defendants found guilty as charged
