Argyris Karayiannis

Argyris Karayiannis was a Greek athlete who competed in the pole vault and the 4x400m relay.

Karayiannis was born in Kalabaka, Thessaly on July 1, 1903. He was an athlete first of GC Amarousion and later of GC Ethnikos and Panathinaikos. He was a contemporary of Panagiotis Chlentzos - a Greek-American - who also competed in the pole vault.

Karayiannis broke the Greek pole vault record 8 times between 1925 and 1930, the last time being on October 11, 1930, in Athens, with 3.76m. He competed for Greece in the Olympics of 1924 and 1928.

Among his accomplishments were gold medals in the Balkan Games of 1929 and 1930.
