Lilikas was first elected into the House of Representatives in 1996, under the banner of AKEL, in Lefkosia province. He was appointed Minister of Trade, Industry and Tourism on March 1, 2003. On June 13, 2006, he replaced Georgios Iakovou as Foreign Minister. He resigned in July of 2007 after AKEL pulled out of the governing coalition but threw his support behind incumbent President Tassos Papadopoulos for the upcoming elections.
Lilikas is married with one son.
