Evangelos "Vangelis" Meimarakis is a Greek politician, formerly Minister for National Defence of the Greek Republic.

Meimarakis was born in Athens on December 14, 1953. He studied Law at the University of Athens and Political Science at Panteios University.

Meimarakis entered politics and was first elected to the Hellenic Parliament in June 1989, under the banner of New Democracy. He was reelected in 1990, 1993, 1996, 2000 and 2004.

From December 1992 until October 1993 Meimarakis served as Deputy Minister of Culture, responsible for Sports. He was appointed Minister for National Defence on February 15, 2006.

In 2015, Meimarakis was appointed head of the New Democracy party. He lost the national elections in September of that same year to Alexis Tsipras' SYRIZA party and resigned.

He is married with two daughters.
