Vasilis Michaloliakos

Vasilis I. Michaloliakos is a Greek doctor, politician and Mayor of Piraeus.

Michaloliakos was born on November 20, 1952, in Korogonianika, Mani, the ninth of 11 children in his family. He studied Medicine at the University of Athens specialising in oncology.

From 1990 Michaloliakos has been consistently elected MP from the A' District of Piraeus. Prior to that, he served as president of the youth movement of the New Democracy party (ONNED).

He has served as Deputy Defence Minister in the government of Kostas Karamanlis.

On November 14, 2010, he was elected Mayor of Piraeus.

Personal

Michaloliakos is married with a daughter and two, so far, grandchildren. He was the victim of a bomb attack on January 21, 2001.
