Vasilis Papakonstantinou

Vasilis Papakonstantinou is a Greek singer. He was born in a little village of Arkadia on June 20, 1949. His big family moved to Athens in 1957.

He began singin in the age of 20 and after his military service in 1973 he went to Munich, Germany to participate and sing in anti-dictatoric commities where many Greeks used to go.

In 1974 he met Mikis Theodorakis in Paris. Their coorparation would start in 2 years. He returned to Athens the same year, and started his professional career. He participated in Manos Loizos' album "Ta tragoudia tou dromou". The next year he recorded "Ta agrotika" of Thomas Bakalakos. It was that time when he met Manos Loizos and Thanos Mikroutsikos, two composers who brought a new sound to Greek music. Vasilis was ideal to express the two artists.

He coorparated for the first time in 1976 with Mikis Theodorakis and 2 years later Mikis Theodorakis, included him in his international tour giving him a chance to sing in Europe, America and Australia .

From that time he started showing his influences from foreign rock, in his first two albums which he recorded in early 80s . The first was titled after his name and included songs from Antonis Vardis and remakes of Dionysis Savvopoulos , Mikis Theodorakis and Luis Lach.

The second was titled "Fovamai." Later on he met Nikolas Asimos and participated in his first album "Xanapes." Asimos was the second person after Manos Loizos who influenced him greatly . In 1984 he recorded "Diairesi" establishing his sound in greek music . Vasilis was considered one of the most popular singer's by the middle 80s . In April of 1985, 16,000 fans attended his concert in the Peace and Friendship Stadium.

From that point and on, his concerts were considered major events . In late 80s he records "Xorevo." He sang with Nikolas Asimos again in Asimos' album "Falimento tou Kosmou" and later he recorded his new album "Sfentona" . He coorperated with Alkis Alkaios, Christophorus Krokidis, Vasilis Giannopoulos, Stamatis Mesimeris, Aphrodite Manou, Odysseus Ioannou and Minos Matsas in 1994 recording "De Sikonei." In 1997 he recorded "Pes mou ena psema n'apokoimitho". Two years later he came back with a softer sound in his new album "Na me fonaxeis" .

His latest work is the coorparation with Thanos Mikroutsikos in the album "Thalassa stin skala."
