- 1858: Old Corinth is destroyed by a major earthquake. The city will be rebuilt closer to the sea.
- 1915: Prime Minister Eleftherios Venizelos resigns after a series of disagreements - mostly focused around entry into World War I - with King Constantine I.
- 1941: Seven Italian aircraft are downed over Greece in a single day during World War II.
- 1985: Publisher Nikos Momferatos of the daily paper Apogevmatini and his driver are killed in Kolonaki. The Revolutionary Organisation 17 November assume responsibility.
- 1993: Turkish PM, Turgut Ozal, accuses Greece of "chauvinism" in relation to FYROM's use of the name "Macedonia".

- 2000: Coach Vangelis Roupakas leads Barcelona to their first Spanish Water Polo Cup. He becomes the second Greek coach after Yiannis Yiannouris (Pescara) to win a title abroad.
