- February 19: A 1-hour gun battle takes place at Larnaca International Airport between Egyptian antiterrorist forces and the Cypriot National Guard. The Egyptians had attempted to seize an aircraft with hijackers who had murdered the previous day.

- May 17: AEK humble Olympiakos 6-1 in the semifinal of the Greek Football Cup. Thomas Mavros scores 3 goals, Dusan Bajevic, Tasos Konstantinou and Takis Nikoloudis the other 3.
