- 1830: Greece is recognised as an independent country by the London Protocol. The new state had a population of approximately 750,000 persons and consisted of Peloponnesus, Rumeli and the Cyclades islands. Two-thirds of all Greeks were left outside its borders.

- 2000: One of the key players in the early years of Greek basketball, Nikos Koutsalexis dies in Paris aged 83. He won 3 championships with Panellinios (1937, 1939, 1940)
- 2000: Calliope Ouzouni becomes the first Greek female shot put athlete to throw the shot beyond 19m (19.03m) improving her own record (18.12m on January 26, 1997)
