- May 23: The Greek military vessel "Velos" sails to Italy where its crew seeks political asylum from the military Junta that rules Greece.
July
- July 29: The Military government of Greece holds a referendum on a proposed new constitution that abolishes the monarchy. 78.4% approve according to the government-released results.
August
- August 5: Three people were killed and 55 wounded after two Arab gunmen opened fire and threw grenades into a crowded passenger lounge at Athens airport.
- August 19: George Papadopoulos is sworn in as President after the abolition of the Monarchy by the military Junta.
November
- November 25: After weeks of unrest, a coup was orchestrated by the head of the feared military police, Brigadier General Dimitrios Ioannides which deposed the Greek Government headed by self-appointed President George Papadopoulos.
December
- December 29: Dimitris Kokolakis makes his debut with the national team against Great Britain in Athens. The “center” of Panathinaikos, Aris and Ilisiakos, will go on to score a total of 1271 points in 177 caps in his international career.
